Land Securities get green light for mixed-use City Forum scheme in Islington with 720 new homes
Land Securities has received planning permission for a 1.1 million sq ft mixed-use development in Islington.
Islington Council passed the City Forum scheme, submitted jointly with Frogmore and Galliard Homes, which will develop 1.9 ha in the borough.
Arranged around a central public square, the development will provide 720 homes, 30% of which will be affordable.
It will also include office, retail and restaurant space, a new hotel and student accommodation.
City Forum will feature green and brown roofs, roof gardens and landscaping, while grey water and rainwater will be used for landscape irrigation.
Intended to be a largely car-free development, a small number of mainly disabled parking spaces will be complimented with 965 sheltered on-site bike spaces and 70 secured public cycle parking places.
The brownfield site, bounded by City Road, Dingley Road and Macclesfield Road, currently comprises 1980s offices and related parking spaces.
Head of development for Land Securities’ London Portfolio Colette O’Shea said: “City Forum further demonstrates Land Securities’ active approach to development in London, where we look to create developments which drive London forward.
“We are delighted to have the go-ahead from Islington Council for this scheme. A force for positive change, we believe this scheme will regenerate City Basin and make this part of the borough a place where people will want to be.”
