Plans submitted for £50million Ipswich town centre scheme
Following a public consultation in July, Chelmsford based developer Turnstone has submitted a planning application in a joint venture with investor RevCap for a £50million scheme to redevelop Ipswich's former Civic Centre site, building a large supermarket with 120,000 sq ft of shopping in total as well as landscaped walkways, a restaurant and large ampitheatre style public space.
Meanwhile, demolition of the old Civic Centre site is progressing. Nick Scott, director at Turnstone, said: "The scheme is at a very exciting stage. With demolition of the former Civic Centre progressing, it is possible to start to visualise how the Westgate Centre will look."
Demolition work is expected to be completed by the end of the year, with construction starting in summer 2009 and completion in spring 2011.
