Fashion retailer d2 enters administration
The company has become the first retailer to fail since the Christmas trading period.
Fashion retailer d2 has gone into administration, resulting in the closure of some stores.
Two of its three shops in Dublin have ceased trading, resulting in the loss of 39 jobs, while a further 22 have been made redundant at the firm's base in Dundonald, Ayrshire.
Its remaining outlets are to stay open for the time being, with administrator BDO noting that it intends to sell off the 76-store chain - a move that may involve disposing of some of its commercial property assets.
"We are continuing to trade the business and hope to sell all or part of the company as a going concern", James Stephen of the business services company said.
The retailer has become the first to go under following Christmas trading and Mr Stephens added that it is "unfortunate" the sector has been adversely affected by the current "difficult" economic climate and trading conditions.
Another struggling firm, JJB Sports, revealed last month that it is "cautious" about its current situation given the fact that it will not receive is full stock allocation until the first quarter of this year.
