The Bluewater shopping centre in Kent has recorded strong sales for December 2009, beating the UK average set out by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and KPMG by 1.6%.
Bluewater, which features 1.6 million sq ft of
commercial property space occupied by retailers, bars and restaurants, said sales for the month increased by 7.6% when compared to the same period in 2008, Property Week reports.
This is the third consecutive month that the shopping centre has outperformed the BRC/KPMG benchmark and its data from the previous year, something general manger Andrew Parkinson described as a "great achievement".
"The most important driver of our continued success over the quarter is the constant evolution of Bluewater's retail and catering mix," the news source quoted him as saying.
Mr Parkinson noted that over 30 brands opened new retail business property at Bluewater in 2009, while almost 40 carried out refurbishments to existing locations.
Approximately 27 million people visit Bluewater every year, with around 10 million arriving by car.
