Planning permission has been granted for a new
commercial property in Milton Keynes, which will become the home of Network Rail.
The town's planning authority has given the go-ahead for work to start at a site that was once home to a hockey stadium.
Network Rail said the
business property is to be "one of the most sustainable office buildings in the country", with environmentally-friendly features set to include 'living roofs', which will help collect rainwater for use in toilet flushing.
Construction of the 400,000 sq ft building will begin in August, with the work scheduled to be finished in 2012.
Iain Coucher of Network Rail said its new head office will be a "stunning addition to central Milton Keynes".
He also thanked the "many hundreds" of local people who gave feedback on the plans to the project's designers.
Last month, the company appointed BAM Construction to assist with the second stage of designing the building and the procurement process.
