Fashion retailer Republic is set to move into the Northern Ireland retail market with the acquisition of
commercial property in Belfast.
According to Property Week, the company is to become the new occupant of a 10,000 sq ft store that was used by music and film retailer Zavvi before it entered administration.
The site is located inside the CastleCourt shopping centre and the new shop is set to open in March.
Bill Giouroukos, director of operations at Westfield - which owns the CastleCourt facility - said that demand for retail
business property in Belfast and Northern Ireland is high.
"It is encouraging to see new retailers making their debut in the Irish market," he was quoted as saying.
The move is part of Republic's plan to open 12 new stores across the UK this year.
In a trading update issued earlier this month, it said that the expansion would create around 500 jobs and contribute towards the firm's aim of doubling its turnover in the next three years.
