Dublin commercial property development gets go-ahead

Plans for the construction of a new commercial property development in Dublin have been granted approval by planning authorities.

An Bord Pleanala has given Chartered Land the green light to begin work on the site in O'Connell Street, which used to be the home of the Carlton Cinema.

Work on the 800,000 sq ft development - which will be known as Dublin Central - is expected to be completed by 2016.

Department store chain John Lewis will be the centrepiece of the shopping centre, which will feature 98 retail units.

In addition, 69 residential properties will be built, along with restaurants totalling 4,500 sq m in size and approximately 700 car parking spaces.

Head of retail development at John Lewis Jeremy Collins was quoted by Property Week as saying the firm welcomes the "positive news".

"We are pleased that Chartered Land has achieved this important milestone for Dublin Central," he remarked.
