Best Buy will use
commercial property in Thurrock, Essex as the site of its first UK store, it has been announced.
In a statement on the electronics retailer's website, chief executive Paul Antoniadis said the company will open the doors to the shop in May, with two more following in June.
These will be based in the West Midlands and close to Southampton, while another store, in
business property in Aintree, near Liverpool, is due to come into operation later in the year.
"I can also confirm that we will be opening a store in Croydon, Surrey, which is expected to open in the autumn this year - creating around 100 jobs," Mr Antoniadis added.
Best Buy, which is partnered with Carphone Warehouse, is already successful across the US and Canada and will be competing against DSG International, which owns PC World and Currys.
Earlier in the month, DSG International said it intends to open 33 more megastores across the UK over the course of this year.
