Waitrose has purchased a retail hub in Chester containing a number of
commercial properties.
The retailer acquired Boughton Retail Centre, which was the subject of a rejected shopping plan in 2009 from an unknown company, the Chester Chronicle reported.
Spokeswoman Liana Griffiths was quoted by the publication as saying: "Waitrose is working closely with Cheshire West and Chester Council to bring forward a comprehensive and sympathetic development [that] will enhance the Boughton area."
She added the firm is hoping to submit an application for planning permission in the coming months.
Waitrose - owned by the John Lewis Partnership - currently has 229 supermarkets across the country and has been looking for a
business property site in Chester for some time, according to the publication.
Clive Jones, who lives near the retail outlet, said the park is currently "a mess", but hopes a retailer like Waitrose will create a more "prestigious-looking" site.
