Proposals for a
commercial property in Morpeth have been approved, it has emerged.
Outline planning permission will be granted to Dransfield Properties, which hopes to create a food store measuring 30,000 sq ft in the Northumberland town, the Morpeth Herald reported.
Some residents objected to the development and claimed the
business property site is not ideally suited to the proposed use.
But planning committee members voted in favour of granting outline planning permission, the publication revealed.
North area development manager Peter Rutherford said the plans were "sequentially the most competitive site [that] will secure a positive rather than an adverse impact on the viability and vitality of the town centre".
However, a local resident objected to the decision, expressing concerns over the number of lorries and vehicles passing through the area in order to reach the commercial property.
Dransfield Properties is located in Barnsley and specialises in retail developments throughout the country.
