A
commercial property has become greener after a refurbishment, which has made it one of the country's most energy-efficient retail stores.
This is according to Alumasc, which provided the ZinCo roof on the Co-operative
business property in Oakham, Manchester.
The environmentally-friendly roof allows rainwater to be harvested and contains plants from the local area that let wildlife flourish.
Other green features of the building - which cost £4.5 million to construct and replaces an old store destroyed by fire - include solar panels that heat the water.
The specially designed roof has the added benefit of helping to cut air and noise pollution and carbon emissions.
It is hoped the commercial property as a whole will reduce its yearly carbon emissions from 103kg/m2 to 40kg/m2.
The Co-operative Group has approximately 4,800 retail outlets across the UK and employs 114,000 people. It states: "We are amongst the world's leading businesses tackling climate change."
