A number of business properties in the Channel Islands will be purchased by Waitrose, as the retailer aims to expand into the area in the near future.
It has acquired two
commercial properties in Guernsey and three in Jersey, which are awaiting an agreement from regulatory authorities.
When the five outlets open they will initially be operated by Sandpiper and handed over to the supermarket chain in 2011.
Waitrose states the move will create hundreds of jobs in the Channel Islands and managing director Mark Price says locals have been asking for the development for a number of years.
"The move is part of our strategy to make the Waitrose brand accessible to more people in more places," he adds.
Mr Price referred to acquisitions from Woolworths and the recently-formed partnership with Boots, which he claims will be built on by this latest progression
Owned by the John Lewis Partnership, some 229 Waitrose supermarkets currently operate throughout the UK.
