Carpetright has revealed its preliminary results for the year ending May 1st 2010 and a number of business properties opened during this period, it has emerged.
The retailer has a total of 695 stores and sells products such as carpets, laminates, rugs and vinyls as well as beds, after recently acquiring Sleepright.
During the 52-week period, a 7% increase in total group revenue was noted and underlying pre-tax profit rose by 64%.
It opened 19 new
commercial properties, bringing its store base - excluding Sleepright within Carpetright locations - to 586.
Chairman and chief executive Lord Harris said: "In a challenging year, I am pleased to report that Carpetright has delivered an improved performance."
He stated tight control over the company's finances have made it possible to manage the business during this period.
Lord Harris added he expected subdued demand across Europe over the coming months but the company is still confident about its performance when the economy picks up.
