Plans for a new
business property in Wrexham are being discussed today (July 5th), it is reported.
Supermarket chain Morrisons is preparing to build a
commercial property at the town's Ruthin Road site, the Leader revealed.
Chief planning officer Lawrence Isted has already recommended the proposals and was quoted by the publication as saying: "The new store will draw the vast majority of its income from existing large supermarkets in Wrexham, stores which are currently overtrading."
Sainsbury's, Tesco and Asda already own business properties in Wrexham, as well as Aldi and Lidl stores operating in the area.
But Mr Isted stated planning permission is not responsible for getting involved with issues such as consumer choice or competition.
As well as the supermarket, the proposal includes a car park and petrol station, with a total of 350 jobs to be created in the area.
More than 403 stores are currently owned by Morrisons, but the company says it is always looking to expand upon this figure.
