Waitrose may be about to launch a
commercial property in Wimbledon, following consultations with planning council officers.
The site was formerly owned by DIY chain B&Q and has been the topic of discussions among officials, the Wimbledon Guardian revealed today (July 6th).
A report from planning officers recommended the
business property scheme's approval and confirmed it would not damage other firms operating in the area, providing certain conditions are met.
Smaller companies are said to be concerned about the move, but local resident Dave Edge said: "I would welcome a new Waitrose store which would bring quality jobs as well as greater choice to residents in the local area."
The publication revealed some 108 individuals had written to the council showing their support for the development, with 62 others objecting.
According to John Lewis Partnership, which owns the supermarket chain, the stores strive to support the local community while providing a quality service.
