Business properties owned by Guardian News and Media (GNM) have cut their carbon emissions in the past year, the company revealed.
Measures in its London
commercial properties have contributed to the reduction, with the organisation also concentrating on lowering CO2 emissions from travel, during the financial year ending March 2010.
The Guardian noted GNM print sites optimised their energy efficiency and were able to reduce electricity and gas use.
But one
business property was forced to use more fuel to heat the office during the cold winter that hit much of the UK.
Claire Buckley, GNM environmental manager, said: "As we measure our carbon footprint at the moment, it's more than 85% of our overall carbon emissions from our offices and our print centres."
Tim Brooks is managing director of the group, which is responsible for publishing national newspapers the Guardian and the Observer, as well as the Guardian.co.uk website.
