Businesses properties need the right IT system in order to meet standards imposed by the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC EES), it has been suggested.
The mandatory CRC EES scheme aims to lower emissions and increase energy efficiency in large organisations in the UK.
Businesses may wish to start thinking about how to cope with measures they could potentially be faced with.
"The use of a centralised management system rather than spreadsheets, emails and word documents means that errors can be minimised and the results can be easily verified," suggested Sonny Masero, vice president of ecoSoftware.
He added it is vital that
commercial property owners looking to deal with broader sustainability performance issues identify and prioritise the environmental and social risks to their business.
The Department for Energy and Climate Change stated it will be necessary for organisations involved in the scheme to monitor their emissions and purchase allowances, initially sold by government, for each tonne of CO2 they emit.
