A total of 40
commercial properties could be opened by Waitrose each year in the near future, it has been claimed.
Speaking to the Sunday Telegraph, Waitrose managing director Mark Price revealed the company's desire to expand its
business property base.
He said there are plans for approximately ten supermarkets to open each year and 30 convenience stores in addition to this.
In the longer term, Mr Price said there could be 220 more Waitrose shops in the coming years, as well as around 1,000 partner outlets.
He told the publication: "If the economic models of all of them were to work, I think we could have up to 1,450 branches in five years' time."
"We're massively outperforming the market," Mr Price added.
Waitrose is owned by the John Lewis Partnership, with also runs John Lewis and Greenbee organisations.
A total of 70,000 permanent staff act as partners in the group, which was set up by John Spedan Lewis.
