Businesses that require a reliable broadband connection in their
commercial property may be disappointed by the government's decision to delay its universal 2Mbps internet roll-out.
According to Chris Marling, editor of BroadbandGenie.co.uk, this was an "inevitable" move.
Business property owners in Finland, however, recently learnt they would be legally entitled to a 1Mbps broadband subscription for their firm, after the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority made the decision.
Mr Marling said this announcement "should be seen as a very serious warning sign to government here of what is to come".
"Everyone has to be realistic about the economic conditions", he continued, adding ensuring a minimum standard of 2Mbps in the UK by 2015 "would be something".
During a broadband industry event earlier this month, the secretary of state for culture, Olympics, media and sport Jeremy Hunt revealed previous plans to assure this speed by 2012 would be cut, due to insufficient funding.
