Businesses could find their
commercial property need has changed, after it was revealed many of them are operating below capacity.
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) surveyed more than 1,200 of its members and found two-thirds of south east firms are most prone to being under capacity.
Business property owners of smaller companies may be even more likely to be carrying out less work than they are used to and this was the case for 67% of them, the FSB noted.
National chairman of the body John Walker said: "With 600,000 public sector jobs expected to be lost, stimulating private sector job creation, especially in small firms, will be vital to rebalancing the economy."
He suggested the government should encourage such businesses to expand, which may mean their commercial property needs alter.
In a bid to promote and protect self-employed individuals and small-firm bosses, the FSB was formed in 1974 and now has 213,000 members from across the UK.
