Commercial property owners need to embrace renewable energy sources, an expert has suggested.
Journalist at BusinessGreen.com Andrew Charlesworth said it makes sense for
business property owners to implement green strategies, as it will save cash.
"Green is economically efficient. If you put money into things like energy conservation, insulation, you can get returns of 15% on your investment," he added.
Mr Charlesworth noted sticking with traditional energy sources will cost more in the long run, as the price of fossil fuels is rising and will continue to do so.
The specialist's comments follow the release of the Annual Energy Statement by the Department of Energy and Climate Change, which revealed the UK needs to stop using traditional energy sources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and boost the availability and affordability of diverse energy sources.
And by 2050 the country's supply of gas and oil will be depleted and this will force the costs of extracting the commodity from elsewhere to rise.
