Businesses need to understand how much energy their
commercial property is using in order to cut their carbon emissions.
This is the advice of a spokesman for the Centre for Alternative Technology, who said until this is done, firms will not know where to start.
Auditing the emissions from a
business property and noting exactly how much energy is being consumed is an important first step.
"Once you have an understanding of where your emissions are coming from, you can look at the different options for reducing them in those areas," he continued.
The advice follows the launch of a government review of waste policies, announced by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
It stated it would look at ways of maximising recycling options and cutting waste.
The spokesman suggested it could be cost effective for business property owners to switch to renewable energy, as this should allow them to meet targets set both nationally and internationally.
