Business property plans put in place by supermarket chain Lidl are currently being discussed, as the retailer attempts to alter a planning permission condition.
Lidl was given consent to open a store and office block in Newport, providing it included a play area, the South Wales Argus reports.
Last March the company applied to Newport Council and asked if this condition could be removed, but pleas were refused.
It has now appealed to the Planning Inspectorate, the publication notes, with the original report to the council stating the play area is no longer "absolutely necessary".
A spokeswoman for the retailer was quoted by the publication expressing concerns the play site could be misused if it is built before the
commercial property development is completed.
She instead suggested the playground and seating area construction be delayed to coincide with the office block build.
Lidl runs grocery stores throughout Europe and is known for selling items at discount prices.
