Proposals for a
commercial property in Birmingham have been branded "awful" and rejected, it has emerged.
Supermarket chain Morrisons applied to open the
business property in the city centre, the Birmingham Post reports.
As well as a store, the retailer applied to create five shops and a car park in Five Ways.
Referring to the plan, councillor Beauchamp was quoted as saying: "It is just awful in comparison with the buildings that surround it and is a sub-standard design as far as I am concerned."
Committee members would not approve the ideas, despite previous advice from city council planning officers suggesting the opposite should be the case, the publication notes.
Councillor Keith Linnecor suggested the design should be "bigger and better" in order to be more suited to the area.
Morrisons has a total of 403 stores around the country and is the fourth-largest food retailer in the UK, employing some 124,000 members of staff.
