Firms are competing for
commercial property deals in Corby that could see the creation of a food superstore worth millions of pounds.
The Northants Evening Telegraph reported Land Securities and Greatline Developments are both putting forward plans for two sites in the town.
Corby town centre is owned by the former, while the latter wished to create a food superstore, garden centre and filling station at an industrial estate it currently owns.
Leader of the local council Pat Fawcett said: "Whatever happens Corby can't lose."
Talks are now being held between both parties, but whoever wins the contract will be required to build a multiplex cinema as well as carrying out their proposed commercial property venture.
Ms Fawcett added: "In this economic climate it is extraordinary that we should be in the position of having two major developments in the pipeline."
Land Securities has a retail portfolio spanning some 19.4 million sq ft of accommodation.
